Back in the mid 90's there were many cycling events, BC Cup, Canada Cup events and races like the Test of Metal, Cheakamus Challenge, 24 Hours of Adrenalin and later the Trans Rockies Challenge. There was a group of friends taking part in these events, racing for sponsors such as Granville Island Brewing, Asama, Rocky Mountain and Seymour Bicycle Fitness. Some rode as independents looking for the possibility of a sponsored ride.

At one of these races the group suggested to Jeff that since he was employed in the Sports Nutrition Industry and had many relationships and connections, that he should start his own team and they would ride for him.                         The first J Ban Racing group, Natural Factors "Team BeCause" was formed in 1998 followed by Basic Sports Nutrition, Flash 5, Flora Glo, Alliance Ingredients, Zinetti Foods and finally Bayview Towing. Through the years while the team sponsorship may have changed, the heart, sole and core group of people has remained the same.

J BAN RACING was born with Jeff, Edwin, Rick, Tyler and Brad. Shortly after, Johnny Anderson, Bart, Karen, Dale, Gail and Bryan Henderson joined in. In 2005 Jeff, Rick and Terry Routley rode the inaugural Ride 2 Survive, a 400 KM one-day ride from Kelowna to Delta. It was after that when Jeff envisioned building his own charity ride, one in which the average cyclist could complete. Thus, he founded the Ride For Hope in 2007. The ride went through a sponsorship and name change in 2015 becoming the "Ride for The Kids". The team today sill has many original as well as newer members participating in many local rides both for charity and fun while logging thousands of KM's a year

This year will be the 12th for the Ride For The Kids! The focus of the ride, as always, is raising funds and awareness for the Canucks For Kids Fund, directly benefiting the children and families of Canuck Place Children's Hospice.
